WORD LITERARY CONTEST
FOR POETRY AND SHORT FICTION


Hear Ye: Open to anyone and everyone, writing of all styles and subjects — new, original work which is unpublished.

The winners' names from each category will be published starting in the December issue of Word.

Deadline: Entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. EST on October 6, 2003.

PRIZES
First prize $100.
Second prize $50.
Third prize $25.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories: short fiction and poetry. Every entrant receives a yearıs subscription to Word and the prize winners' entries are published in Word.

Contest Fees
$20 for the first short story or poem and
$5 for each additional short story or poem.

RULES

Mail entries, SASE and cheques or money orders, made out to Insomniac Press, to:

  1. Entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. EST on October 6, 2003.

  2. Entries must be accompanied by self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the submission and notification of the winning entries.

  3. Entries must be accompanied by a cheque or money order made out to Insomniac Press in the appropriate amount to pay for the entry fee. (See contest fees above.)

  4. Entries must be printed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, double spaced. The entrant's name address and phone number must be on a cover sheet; however, no name may appear anywhere on their story or poem. We are trying to achieve blind judging in this way.

  5. Short fiction entries cannot exceed 1,500 words.

  6. Poetry entries cannot exceed three pages, double spaced.

  7. Electronic entries will be accepted (submit here), but payment and SASE must be received by the October 6, 2003 deadline.

  8. Electronic entries must be sent as email attachments in the following formats: MS Word file, PDF file, text only file, AppleWorks or ClarisWorks file.

  9. Failure to comply with any of the above stipulations will disqualify the entry.

  10. The winners' names from each category will be published starting in the December issue of Word.


FINE PRINT

Copyright of the work submitted to this contest remains with the author. However, winners of the contest will give Word first periodical publishing rights. This contest is not open to the staff or contributors of Word. Entries will not be returned to contest applicants, unless a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope), with sufficient postage, is enclosed with the entry. Entries that fail to comply with these rules will be immediately disqualified.
